Magnetic Torque Coupling

The magnetic torque coupling consists of a magnet and a conductor rotor with a variable air gap. When the main motor rotates the conductor rotor, it opposes the magnet installed on the driven end. The rotor conductor generates an eddy current-induced magnetic field during circular motion at the active end. This field interacts with the magnetic field at the driven end, allowing for non-contact torque transmission.

When the machine is overloaded or stuck, the air gap between the magnetic rotor and the conductor rotor rapidly increases until it reaches the point where the speed of the magnetic rotor at the machine end decreases or reaches zero. This activates the motor’s overload protection. After the overload or stuck condition is resolved, the magnetic and conductor rotors return to their original minimum air gap positions through the recovery mechanism, and the machine resumes normal operation.
